Philatelic Counters and Authorised Offices

Very often, instead of opening a philatelic bureau in a particular town, a philatelic counter is provided in the departmental sub office. For technical purposes, such counters are under the philatelic bureaux though their administrative control rests with the concerned postmaster. The functions of the counter are greatly restricted as compared to those of the bureau. Philatelic counters, for example, do not provide the special First Day Cancellations like the bureaux but give only a standard "First Day of Issue" cancellation for all the new issues. While the bureaux get their supplies direct, the counters generally get theirs through the respective bureaux.

In addition to the philatelic bureaux and counters, philatelic material may also be sold through post offices specially authorised by the Heads of Circles. Such authorised offices, however only effect the sales and do not any other philatelic services.
